i know that there are no upscale pastry shops around here. i think someone mentioned a couple in hoboken, but rated them mediocre. (where are they exactly and what are the names again? :) ) i either go to 'financier' in the wfc2 or 'blackhound new york' (shorthills mall). i think life would be a lot more enjoyable if a nice upscale pastry shop opened up in newport. if it did late night deliveries that'd be the best. am i asking for too much? :)

You should try Whole Foods in Edgewater and on 24th & 7th Ave in MH, great pastries and cakes!

Bruno's on Bleecker St in the Village between 7th and 6th Aves. Also, try the gelato.

I personally like Rocco's next to Bruno's more...

You know you are asking too much.

Take the path to Citarella which has replaced Blackhound in my book. You aren't going to find another shop with a better selection of gourmet pastry within 30 minutes.

Citarella's good, but the best one I've gone to IS in (surprise, surprise) Hoboken:

Ganache on 356 13th street (see www.ganache.net)

the pastry chef is from Le Bernardin & Rainbow Room

their signature cake (which takes 14 hours to make) is the best one I've ever had.

Thanks Morpheus. Who would have thought?! It looks like a gem. Can't wait to try it.

I've been to the Riviera Bakery a few times, and their stuff is pretty good. A few other people recommended it to me, too. As for Downtown JC, I haven't seen too much, though Janam Tea on Grove St. and Bay has good pastries available--not really anything you'd need for a birthday, but the scones are great. They're open til 11 p.m., usually. The tea's really good, too.

ok so the white chocolate mousse cake was okay. i tasted butter more than white chocolate. the chocolate ganache was better. not bad. it did take over 13 hrs to make or something right? the worst, most unedible pastry was this chocolate ladybug. OMG. it was like an in between brownie and cake. not as soft as a cake, but not as hard as a brownie. so think about it, GROSS. i have to say, blackhound still rules in my book. their triple chocolate mousse cake and pistachio mousse cake are my favs. anyway, i'm thinking about trying riviera next. it's in hoboken on washington st right? i remember driving by it several times. so sorry morpheus but those were my 2 cents on ganache. :)
