Does any one have any comments on tmobile? I just signed up for a plan and my cell is still on its way...
Tmobile has a family plan starting from $50, which includes a 2nd line. Both cell phones are coming free. This is a one year contract.

Cingular on the other hand has a 40 dollar plan and wants another 20 dollars for each additional line (making it 60 for the most basic plan with total 2 lines, and 80 bucks for their standard family plan including the cost of the second line). And some more crap about not getting unlimited calling between the two lines. This is a two year contract. screw cingular.

Any comments on tmobile reception? specially in marbella

i just signed up with tmobil too! except that one of the phones just died on us. it was defected apparently. they are sending out a new one. what an inconvenience. service has been swell so far though... *knock on wood*. i switched over from att.. now cingular. they were the absolute worst. tmobil i think offers the cheapest family plan.

You are so right about cingular.. I went to the cingular store to browse family plans.. and my jaw dropped hearing what they've got.. 80 buck a month to get 2 phones.. and 2 years contract and 225 charges to drop each line! I'm sure they would some how make that 80 thing a $100 a month bill. I have an AT&T phone right now and some how I end up getting a regular bill of $53 despite having a $40 a month plan.

Tmobile sounds good. They gave both phones free - thats good. And 1 year contract. Thats very good. I hope the reception is good.

I've been with Tmobile since it was Voicestream in 1998. I am always happy with them, especially if you travel to big cities a lot, no roaming, no LD. :)

Have T Mobile. Recently switched over from verizon. Just like that. Was bored with verizon. T mobile has great plans, and so far the reception has been mostly good ( not as good as verizon but pretty good). I got two free phones and a lot of money back, because I signed up using an Authorized dealer. Really cool phones too.

Have really had no reasons to complain.

The problem is, if you have NYC numbers like 917, you still pay NYC taxes, and a 50 dollar plan would be more like 65 dollars or something because you still pay NY taxes. I do a bit of SMSing too.

One more thing. They have GSM phones, but off these, some phones are single band, so they can't be used abroad. dual band phones can be used at ceratin places, tri band phones can be used at most places.

I think T-Mobile is the cheapest for family plans. With T-Mobile, detailed billing, call forwarding, enhanced voicemail etc are standard. I was shocked that Cingular was charging extra for these features.

Someone must have given you the wrong info because Cingular does not charge extra for any of those features. I've had Cingular for over a year now. Now that Cingular has merged with AT&T they have the most nationwide coverage. T-mobile has much less coverage, but should work ok as long as you stay near major cities and highways. If you venture into more rural areas T-mobile will not be as good.

Also, T-mobile only uses the 1900 MHz band. Cingular and Verizon use both 850 and 1900. 850 generally has much better reception indoors than 1900. Just something to keep in mind...

Seems like they changed a few things. I was gonna switch to them when they first launched service in NY, and for the same stuff I was getting with T-Mobile for 39.99, Cingular was working out to 45. I do, however, like the rollover feature that Cingular offers. T-Mobile charges $0.35 or $0.40 for every extra minute over the rate plan.

I had AT&T for 2 years, then Sprint for 2-years and now I am with T-Mobile.

So far so good. I also have a family plan, and I never use anywhere close to my minutes. Maybe I can choose a cheaper plan (I have the $80 plan now).

Had Cellular One (now Cingular) for 2 years.... although the service was mostly satisfying, I switched out to VoiceStream (now T-mobile) due to some unresolved voicemail issues.

Stayed with VoiceStream for only 1.5 year... their reception wasn't great in Boston area. In fact, there were quite a lot of "dead zones." Not sure how well they do in NY though. T-mobile definitely provides a great variety of phone selection... something I really liked about them.

Then I changed to AT&T (now Cingular). The service was satisfying. Decent reception... the plans they provide was mediocre though. Nothing too facy. The phone selection was about average too. Now I'm back to Cingular, and I really like their rollover plan!

Verizon is supposed to have the best reception over all, but they offer a limited phone selection. Tmobile has great phone varieties and cheaper plans, but Cingular's reception is better (depends on where you are) - although the price is also relatively higher.

You may want to check a recent issue of the Consumer Report which rated all major providers, plans, and phones. Verizon is unbeatable based on quality of service. May be too late for you as you already signed up. For those who want to sign up for Tmobile, check out those in Chinatown of NYC. I visited several of them and all of them offered $150 - $250 CASH immediately depending on the plans for signing up Tmobile service plus some phones are given to you free. I chose Verizon instead even though I had to pay $200 for the phone and no instant rebate, based on overall review plus one important incidence: on the day of the NYC blackout, only Verizon phones stayed fully functional while all others went dead. That's a sufficient reason for me. Also, the tax difference on phone bills between 917 and 646 or 609 is tiny. You should ask the salesman to show you a comparison.

wow i didnt know about the cash back thing at dealers.. i bought the tmobile plan online and they aren't giving any thing like that (just the 2 cell phones free so thats a total of $200 off, but no cash back or any thing).. hmmm I should have shopped around more before I signed up.
Looks like every one is happy with tmobile.. more or less..
i wasnt happy with att.. although i have an old phone and they no longer off this old analog protocol, so i don't know about the new reception.. but I was told by a friend who has a new cingular plan that the signal is not good in marbella...

Most cell phone companies offer a 15-30 day grace period to try out their service. If you find that it doesn't work well you can look into the option of returning your equipment and terminating your plan without penalty.

I was lucky to be in a beach on the day of blackout. I called at least four colleagues at their cell phones which were all AT&T as it was the choice of our employer. All of them were dead. On the other hand, two friends were able to make calls through their Verizon phones, and it was them who told me that "Only Verizon phones worked on that day." I guess I shouldn't have over generalized. Given your own experience, looks like there were other factors on that day as well.

So is the consensus here that T-Mobile reception is the best in Newport? I have Verizon now and sometimes I can barely make out the person on the other end...or maybe it's because I've dropped my cell one too many times. But I have to start a new contract soon and I want to make sure I get the one with the best reception. One thing I do know for certain is that it won't be Cingular.

Thanks in advance for any opinions.

I have Verizon now, no problems with it, I haven't dropped my cellphone much. I only wish I was able to get a signal down in the PATH station.

It's great to know that Cingular works in the Path station but not in my apartment.

I have a T-mobile.
Cons: It doesnt work at many places (inside Macy's, most of apartment elevators) and drops the connection (while switching it own networks) while travelling on MTA. It doesnt work in PATH nor at Grand Central (where I go everyday).

Pros: Better plans and Works in my apartment!

I have heard Verizon has better range, but I don't wish to take a chance of coming out of my apartment in this weather. Also I need a good choice of handsets.

BTW, I heard if you have a T-Mobile that doesnt work in your apartment they give bills a $5 rebate in your monthly bills. Not much of use though.

I think a family plan with T-Mobile is best among the worst.

Can anyone confirm if I can get the China Town cashback offer if I try to add my wife on a T-mobile family plan with me?
