I don't pay a nanny, but I know people pay from 350-500 a week depending on how good she is.

how did u find a Nanny in Newport area?
we are looking for, NO clue from where to start..
B/w, my friends in Journal Sq were mentioning that for an Asian/Indian nanny (un-officially) baby sitting would charge $200-250 per week. Could get still more cheaper sometimes.

put up an ad in the local paper and your phone shall be flooded with messages. Also, if you put up fliers in the laundry room, you might pick one up that used to work here (so you can get proper references from doormen, etc as well)

You could pay less unofficially but then you may not be able to claim all the childcare credits on your year-end tax return. You might want to do the math first.
You could also post on Craigslist.

I know a good nanny, who might be available. She was taking care of our neighbors' kid. Our neighbors moved out of this neighborhood this weekend, so she is now available. She is really good with babies and i would highly recommend her. If you are interested, you could PM your phone number to me, and i would pass it on to her.

This is a tough conversation, because parents look for different things from nannies. Some are looking for the basics: feed the child and keep him/her away from fire and sharp things. This job description can be filled for $7-8/hr.
For a good nanny (active, reasonably educated, fluent in your primary language, cookfor child, light cleaning and laundry) expect to pay $9-10/hour. For a top-end, in demand nanny (the qualifications above plus driving, well educated, highly experienced, artistic/creative, able to teach your child second language, run errands when child is in class/school, clean, etc.) you can expect to pay $10-12/hour. Hope this helps.
The best way to find people is to speak with parents in the parks during the evening hours. Doormen (the good ones, like Ruddy and Bernardo in Atlantic) are also great sources.
