What is the average rent for a 2BR/2Ba at the Avalon Cove (not the Towers). Also, I understand that they have gas heating. Does the rent include heat and hot water?
Am aware of some complaints regarding bad management, poor security and overall maintenance of the complex. Has the situation improved recently?

I remember The Pier by Harborside also has gas heat & central AC. It's a flat monthly charge for gas, I think $50 for 1 bedroom and $75 for two. It includes gas stove and water heater also. I am not sure if it has gas dryer though. Overall, that can be a good deal. :)
Avalon Cove's rent does not include gas heat. I think PSE&G bill includes both power and gas.

I live in a 1BR and pay around 1900. I think current rates for 2BR are around 2350, with some amount of a break. Rent includes hot water, but not heat. Heat can be a bit pricey because gas is expensive, even though you use very little of it.
I've never had a management or maintenance issue--they're normally pretty helpful--then again, I don't expect management to wave a magic wand and solve all my problems. Security is a little troubling, as there are no "doormen" and it's all based on electronic keycards for the main doors, which are frequently propped open for moves, but I've never felt unsafe.

I live at Avalon Cove, and as Coveman mentioned pay around the same range for a one bed. Its a great community. I know a lot of neighbors, and all of them are very friendly. As far as the rents for the two bed are concerned, there are variations. Those facing Washington Blvd used to go as cheap as 2000 last year, but at the moment, none of them are available. The ones that are available are closer to 2500+ for two beds. You would have to enquire at the office for the exact rent. I suggest you do it around the 1st of the month, because that is usually when people give their 2 months notice.
I like living at Avalon. Though their are no doormen's, I never felt unsafe either. The security personnels do make regular rounds. There is the gym and the basketball court where you can actually hang around with your neighbors.
The heating is gas heating and is not included. But if you apartment is well insulated, you shouldn't get a big bill. Also, I suggest if you take an apartment here, insist of a new carpet. Sometimes the carpets are old, and you might get stuck with one.
I like living at the cove. I do not have many issues, and management usually tries to help out with the problems. I am friendly with the handymen, so they remember and fix any problems, if I mention it them.
