I was wondering whether anyone has used Vonage in Newport, and what their feedback was. I have heard its near perfect clarity and cheap $24.99 unlimited long distance. However i am not sure whether the newportT1 line allows Vonage. anyone used Vonage?

I've used Vonage with Comcast Cable, and it works fine. I also have cell phones as back up, so if the cable network is down, or vonage is having problems, the calls get routed to my cellphone. Is an excellent alternative to expensive landlines. I have the basic service, and I even get 500 US/Canada minutes free, thats like $25 with the Verizon 5 cents a minute plan.

Vonage is great, especially now that the T1 seems to be working pretty consistently. You're a nut to pay the $40-50 a month that Newport Telecom is asking. Switch now.

I used Vonage first with T1 and now with Comcast.... never had any issues.

You could also look at LINGO. For $20/month you get unlimited USA, Canada and Western Europe. This makes all my calls to England essentially free. Lingo as primary (with D-Link router/phone adapter) and cell phones as backup just like LostIn...

only if you have a stable internet connection, otherwise it's a nightmare.
