I am on a high floor in the Marbella and the wind is horrendous tonight.

All of my heating units have been on since 7pm and my apartment is still only 51 degrees!

Not to mention the high-pitched howling sound that is coming through all of my units and windows tonight.

It's no wonder that my Feb. electric bill was $175.

Spring, please come soon!

I am on high floor at East Hampton. It was windy but my apt, as I wrote in another thread, was like around 68F without turning on the heat. No complaint on wind or temperature.

A silly question about wind. On very windy days, like yesterday and several days in Feb., I noticed that the water in the toilet bowl moved a lot, like it was reacting to the wind outside. How come? Silly, but I am curious.

Don't guess. I got much better things to do most of other times.

How come?Fluctuating air pressure between your apartment and the sewer's vent as the wind gusts hit the building. Water moves up and down slightly but not side to side so we're not swaying significantly.

ah even marbella are like that? i thought it was only james madison due to the crappy construction. yeah it's like a vacuum, the sound is so annoying, on top of the noisy heaters. Welcome to luxury living at newport!

Double window fixes a lot of those problems, which is standard on luxury condos..unless you live in newport.

Yeah, it'll be pressure issues like someone else said - but I wonder if those buildings sway in high winds - most tall buildings in Manhattan are designed to sway a few feet either side. I have a friend who lives in the Cityspires building in Manhattan, on the 70th floor I think. When it's really windy, he says drinks swish around in the glasses and you can actually get sea sick. Apparantly some of the older tenants on the higher floors really freak out and go down to the lobby as they feel like the building is going to topple over.

Mind you, the view is probably worth the seasickness - the Newport buildings feel like low-rise towers compared to Cityspires! I think it has 80 floors or something. You can see both rivers clearly from the top.

I'm in Presidential Plaza. WHen the wind blew hard the toilet sloshed back and forth with gusto.

As other buildings surrounded the joint, the sloshing has gone almost to nil.
So now I guess others are "blowin' in the wind."

Riverside is the only steel framed building...guess because it fronts widely on the Southern harbor. It probably rocks GOOD!

Usually the rocking is protective.
