less than $80 for a south facing 1 br. Looks like insulation and using space heaters in combination with wall units is paying off. Sometimes the corridors are heated- that helps too...
What space heater do I use: Bionaire 3900 $70 at Amazon incl tax and free shipping, $100 at the local Sears. Also, if you buy 2 at Amazon, you'll get additional $25 off.
Dont buy the holmes micathermic one at Target. It started giving off sparks after a month (Yikes :O)

Isn't it appalling that we have to use space heaters at Luxury Rents...sounds like Skid Row living!

$48.13 1BR East Hampton high floor facing south. I don't have a theormeter but my best guess is my apt is about 68 F without turning on the heat, expect on two coldest nights. Makes me sort of wonder what's going to happen to my bill in summer.

jesus what do you guys have there in the apt, some kind of nuclear reactor? If i left all my lights/heaters on for 24/7 still dont think i will get $300 a month! mine is only $65 under equal payment plan and i have the heaters all the time when i am home.

Rmember it is POSSIBLE there are landlord plants saying "my electic bill was $14 and I wear shorts all Winter in my 90 degree apartment."
I can't get less than $45 with NO HEAT or NO AIR CONDITIONING during April and October and neither can anyone who really LIVES here. Anyone posting less than $100 during the winter is a liar or a landlord shill...or else the apartment below is smoldering with a slow fire, or the poster is in ANOTHER STATE...or else has an igloo built in the middle of the floor with no danger of it melting.

Lenin, I know how you feel. I rented a condo in suburb before I moved here in Feb. I set it at 68F and used to pay $200+ to $300 every month in winter for energy, because the windows were not sealed properly. Take it easy.

Ridiculing and/or disbelieving people with electricity bills in the $200/$300 range won't win you a lot of friends around here.
Just because *you* lucked out on your apartment's heating situation, doesn't mean that others aren't stuck with high heating bills.

well maybe you should learn to read(what he wrote). i know heating is a huge issue in newport and never "disbelieved" people with high bills.
But calling people liars backed up by such factual statements as "Anyone posting less than $100 during the winter is a liar or a landlord shill" makes him retarded.

Or I could read what you wrote:
Now you say this:

Really? Never? You started off this this:

Your disbelief of our "nuclear reactors" in your first post could form the basis of Lenin's reactionary statements, no?
So he goes a bit far in labeling "anyone," but something tells me his opinion might be closer to the general sentiment than yours. ;)

Gaga,
It is very disturbing to read your post. I did not turn on my heater for 24/7, and I still got very close to $300 for Feb, 2004. I wear socks and sweaters at home so that I do not have to turn on the heaters as much as I want to. It is upsetting enough to pay a lot of money for heating the apartment. Reading a post like yours that make fun of our situation is not funny for sure.
Anyway, What is your intention of saying this? Are you saying this out of disbelief or do you think we are not telling the truth? If you cannot believe me, send me a PM, I'll show you a hard copy of my bill. :(

A little over $100 for a high south facing 1 bedroom.

I have lots of computers, and my normal usage (without heating/cooling) seems to be in the $50-$75 range. Anything above that is heating/cooling.
I'm heating a lot more this year than I did the last 2 years. No particular reason, but I just decided to keep it a bit more comfy instead of bundling up. I usually run a 500 watt space heater and keep it around 70. I turn it off when sleeping or away. Also, I keep the bedroom door closed so that I don't waste heat keeping it warm when I'm in the living room.

Anyone posting less than $100 during the winter is a liar or a landlord shill...I agree that $40-$50 is about the minimum per month because of the fridge, computers, lights, TV, etc. but to suggest that anyone with a low bill is lying or worse is not just bad manners it's objectionable.
Some of us really do have low bills and we have no connection to the management company (other than paying rent), we spend our time here because we live here and we do not have an unauthorized reactor ticking over.

My bill for February was just over $32. for a southwest facing apartment ("marina view") apartment on a high floor in the Atlantic. My heating bills have been much lower this winter, since they did some winterizing in my place. Last summer my A/C was running a lot and the bills did climb to almost $200 in August, lest someone thinks I work for management. Given the level of complaining I regularly read here, I'd rather have a root canal.
