I can't wait to see the new season. Looks like they have better tasks and contestants.
I was kinda disappointed in last season. Didn't think Bill was that good? Was really surpirsed to see Kwame in the finals. I guess an Ivy league education does take you places even if you aren't that good ;) .
Thoughts?

I have an ivy league education and I am still waiting for it to take me places.
I heard that the women were told to use their sexuality less. It was so blatant last season. Is that how corporate America really is?

Isn't there a 10% market devaluation for any corporation with the Trump name?
For that matter, didn't that Trump casino featured in the last shows just undergo bankruptcy reorganization?
A Harvard MBA stuck competing for 12 months for a chance at a $250,000 salary without any defined future?
Mmm... hype.

Of course not. The show has very little to do with actual corporate America. Who the hell would want to watch meetings and paperwork?

I always got the feeling that she was planted on the show to increase the ratings. I can't believe someone would get away with half the stuff she does, but then again she does work for a political org. :D

I'm clearly missing something here - what is Apprentice 2? Where/when it is screened?
Did anyone see the BBC production "The Office"? It was on BBC America.
What do you lot think it takes to succeed in business? I think execution focus, effective communication, pro-active networking, consistently sound judgement, luck and talent, in that order.

It also takes good looks - you can be ugly sure, but you will go farther, faster, if you're attractive.

The Office isn't as funny as I expected. It's shown on BBC America every week.
I don't think hard work and talent take you to the top. But I am just starting out in my career - perhaps I am too young to be this cynical.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of healthy cynicism, but it shouldn't become a dominant perspective. It sends the wrong signals and then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I've seen no end of careers burn out on the pyres of cynicism. I didn't include hard work in my list and talent came last - I really believe excution focus, i.e. getting things done, particularly extra-ordinary things, is the key. it's easy to makes excuses for not being able to do this, but over the length of a career I think everyone gets a few opportunities - and then it depends how you take them.
I've been fortunate to work closely with several really leading business figures over the years and they are all incredibly driven, although not always in the same way. They really have a knack of making peple round them achieve more.
I'm no convinced about good looks, looking good in front of a camera helps, yes, charisma too is useful, but I remember a great friend of mine from University who was boss-eyed and unsymetric in the face and he ended up running Thomas Cooks. His great talent was listening to people and always talking positively about them so they felt special.

I'm not convinced about The Office. it has its moments, but they can be a bit few and far between. It's sometimes scarily like some small businesses in the UK though.

I agree. The Office was only funny in parts. I gave up watching it after the 1st season.
Nic:
Apprentice is on Thur. nites @ 9 PM. The 1st season of the Apprentice is out on DVD. In any case they 2 seasons are not linked.
Basically a bunch [18 this time] of candidates perform business tasks in an attempt to win an apprenticeship with Donald Trump.
The idea was pretty good but some of the tasks in the 1st season were pretty lame. Hopefully it gets better in the new season which starts tomorrow.

"Business tasks..." HAH. Next week, it will be who can fetch coffee the fastest without spilling.
ZZZzzzzzzz... I cleaned up my apartment while that show was on, so it wasn't a complete waste of time

The product placement this go around is ridiculous. But, the retailers understand how much exposure the 1st apprentice got, so from a business perspective, it's smart to attach yourself to his show. Besides, they get some free ideas from some smart people.
From the looks of it, the new Omarosa has arrived...
Carol looks much better this season. They seemed to have stressed that she smile more. She's a very attractive woman!

I see on your post that you don't have the left square bracket. I am guessing you hit the Quote button and tried to edit the text. Just remember to keep the quote tags intact and you should be fine.
Apprentice 2: I thought some of the candidates were very vanilla. I couldn't believe that 8 guys came up with such a lame toy..crustacean nation.
Is this what happens to people who go to business school? Loss of creativity.
I might have to rethink my B-school plans.

And yes, Carol looks a lot more attractive when she smiles more.
But the stare she gave Pam during the Mattel assignment was quite frightening.

It's interesting to see that the women's skirts were not so short this time, and one of the women actually wore a pantsuit.

Bradford's dismissal was almost shocking. Yes he was an idiot, and yes he put a foot in his mouth, but I think it was Stacie who should have gone. She was stupid not to discuss her plans for the temps with the other girls, and seemed rather dismissive of everyone around.
I think Trump fired Bradford for the shock value and higher ratings. Its a reality show, but that was definitely drama.

Brad was a dictator during the first project with his 'football toy' idea.
Stacie should go. She OWNS a Harlem restaurant and yet had NO contacts for the ice cream distribution? Come on!
Raj is pretty cute...
I wonder when this season was filmed because I walk through Times Square all the time and never saw any 'donut ice cream.'

Hello!? What about Ivana???????
She was the most spineless "manager" I've ever seen. It's one thing to be inclusive, another thing to be disorganized and incapable of taking charge.
She should have gone last night.
Also, how could that one cart have gotten lost for 3 hours? Crazy.
I think Stacie's being scapegoated and the team was just all jumping on the bandwagon because they thought Trump would vote with them and dump her.
I didn't like Brad much but he was less bland than so many of the guys.

All these cats are bad all around. I can't stand Ivana. I don't think she represents us in the Asian community too well. I'm curious how long she's had that name.
Bradford was an idiot for volunteering to be brought into the boardroom.
Trump won't fire Stacie J. for a while for ratings purposes. I stated earlier that she is this season's "Omarosa" as everyone has jumped on her case and the editing certainly points to the fact she is indeed crazy. My opinion is that it's less editing and more reality when it comes to her. Muy loca.
If you had to have a picture to describe the word "backstabber," I'm sure you'd find Pam's face on there. She scares me.
Raj and Andy seem pretty cool. As far as the women, I like Elizabeth (I think that's her name). Other than that, no other women really stand out. No, wait, Maria is pretty hot....

I should have made my Apprentice tape sent it in. If these clowns were able to get on the show, I should have had a fair shot at it.
The women, except for Pamela [she freaks me out ] and Maria [wicked hot], are so vanilla.
And the guys...BLAH. Raj is possibly the most pompous git on the show.
Andy is such a little runt. Should have fired him last week, Crustacean Nation, please.

What a lame episode after such a great episode. There was no way Stacie should have been fired for her performance for the tasks on this episode. Infacr, the whole episode was kind of lame in the sense, they hardly showed any planning, and paying Piazza 20K for about 1/2 hour to an hours job was just plain stupid. Maria should have been fired for negotiating a bad deal. But the girls actually acted like a sorority, got B$tchy about Stacie for no reason at all.
Firing Stacie was Trump's mistake. that is not the right business decision to make.

Trump showed a bigoted side by firing Stacie. He practically labelled her crazy in front of the entire country. She should get a lawyer, and sue.
It was obvious that Maria should have been fired, she screwed up the negotiations with the Vendor. And if there was a misunderstanding, she should have negotiated a compromise with the Vendor, not just accept paying the additional $5,000.00. Bad performance all around!
I loved the scenes from the Queen Mary II.

Nah. Stacie was fired becuase she lost her entertainment value --she stopped being crazy/stopped causing tension on the girl's team. It's that simple.

Now that their only "tension" is gone, I don't know what's left with the girl's team. None of them looks sharp enough to stand out.
I certainly hope Pam won't be the last girl standing this season!
And is it just me or does the whole show begin to look like a huge ad campaign? What's with that toothpaste commercial anyway?

She's probably the ONLY girl on APEX that's capable of getting things done. I think Trump made a bad decision this time.
And yes, I agree with you. Stacey's got to go! She's all talk, no action.
LostinLaMancha
October 8th, 2004, 08:19 AM
I think Pam had to go. She had been rather bad on project 1 and project 2. She talked weirdly about kids, and kept using phrases like " pull them by the panties" in the boardroom, and "uteresus and penises" otherwise. Its an interview, no matter how the participants look at it, and this kind of language is unacceptable. She was too bossy when she was the manager, both the times. She should have gone in the first episode, unfortunately, Rob was fired. She was rather bad in the second episode, and did nothing worthwhile on project after that. If it hadn't been for the boys winning, she would have been long gone.
Stacy, I kinda like her, but she has been throwing around attitudes. But I believe the girl to go should be Maria, who never takes responsibilties for her actions. I wonder who the first man to go would be. All of them have been pretty good, and do well as a team.

Me too. The women this season have been HORRIBLE. Catty, stupid and useless, esp. the lil mousey girl, Stacie R. How doesn't Trump just fire her ass and make it a real competition. I predict the women are going to lose over and over, until the teams are changed. Maria is hot, but she is all talk. The rest are just plain blah.

I have to say Jen M. is my favorite. She's not catty and she can actually get things done. She's well spoken in the boardroom and hasn't thrown anyone under the bus.
Raj is the best guy. What a great sense of humor. And when they were talking about pricing he proved to know more than Mr. military man who was trying to assume leadership.
