Jersey City health officers shut down the Hard Grove Cafe yesterday after the
Department of Health received a number of complaints from people who allegedly
became ill after eating there, city officials said.

Sergio Lamboy, director of the city's Department of Health and Human Services,
said inspectors ordered the restaurant, located at Grove Street and Christopher
Columbus Drive, to close pending further inspection yesterday afternoon.

I wouldn't be surprised if the closing of the restaurant was politically motivated. Especially since the owner of the Hard Grove Cafe declared in the front of the Jersey City Reporter that he was in charge of the political campaign for a mayorial opponent (I don't remember his name -- the current Jersey City Chief of Police) agaisnt Harvey Smith. Everything in Jersey City is politically motivated.

However, I was not crazy about the Hard Grove Cafe's food. I am Puerto Rican and I know good rice and beans and they did not have it. If you want good Cuban food go to La Isla in Hoboken.

Demi,

I lived in Hoboken for 6 years and never made it there but lots of my friends raved about the place. How are the prices?

was at Hard Grove over the weekend. I seem fine. (i hope)
For a latin kind of cuisine i like Tina marie's. La Conguita is very decent( service ****s big time)
La Isla-food is nice- i don't care too much for the service!
(In my opinion)

I go to La Conguita as well but didn't want to let the word out. Their fried yucca is awesome. I love media noche sandwiches and La Isla's is really seasoned well but overpriced (like almost everything in Hoboken). There are some other hole in the walls that are really meant for locals. But to be honest, if I really want good Puerto Rican food I can make it or better yet get my mom to cook it.
