I am leaving for a vacation to Tokyo next month and my flight out of Newark Airport is at 6:30am. I think it would take forever on PATH and NJ Transit. Does anyone know a car service to cab that could get me there and how much it would be.
Thanks
Sonia

Millennium Car Service, $25.00 to Newark airport (201)435-4000 or (201)435-9000, call 24 hours in advance for best service.

Yes, use Millennium, as I said on the old forum, they're on time and friendly. Last time I called them to pick me up at EWR, my flight ended up delayed for an hour. They only charged $15 for the waiting time.

I hate to ask a stupid question, but I am guessing the $25 doesn't include a tip. How much should that be. Also, should I reserve it now or wait until it gets closer (October 11 is when I leave.)

That would probably depend on the number of people going to the Airport, and the kind of service the Driver provides to you (helping in loading/unloading the luggage, etc.).
I normally call them up a few days before the flight to make a reservation, and then call up again a day before, just to confirm - I'm actually pretty sure that you can just call them up a few hours before the flight, and they'll still show up right on time!

Is it that complicated tipping taxi drivers? Can't you just give them 15% and have done with it?

Thanks Prashant. I guess the tip could change if you had a lot of people and a lot of luggage and only gave the person a few bucks...that would be kind of rude. Well, it would be just me on this trip and one bag. So, I guess $5 would do it.

I actually go by the 15% "law", if the service is average I give 15%, 5-10% for the poor service, 20% for a great ride.

Bumping because I'm sure many people (including me) will have this question as we move toward the Holidays. Any thoughts for how far I should book ahead for a car midday on the 22nd?

I would NOT recommend Millenium. Their phone etiquette is atrocious. You ask them to repeat something just to clarify and they will begin to yell and berate you. They act as if they don't care for your business. I guess that is what happens when they have an "in" with the doorman. Free business = poor customer service.

I wish I knew about this..
I used the taxi from Newark to TOA. The driver told me it was $35. I even tipped him. Such a rip-off!!! :(

Try Ace Taxi, they are cheaper than Millenium and have bigger Lincoln's.
BonCera, the last time I was at Newark, and tried getting a cab, they told me it was 35, and I was pretty upset, because I knew that I could get a cab otherwise for much cheaper. I just took the cab to Newark Penn Station, and took the PATH. ( It usually 10-12 dollars from Penn to Airport), but they charged me 19 for airport to Penn. I wonder if you are supposed to tip them when they are anyway overcharging you.

LLM,
I don't think I would have given any tip if I knew I was being overcharged. ;)
I usually use LGA airport in New York, so I had no idea. Actually, I was suppose to land in LGA on that day, but all of the planes to New York were delayed due to the weather. The earliest airplane I could take was to Newark airport. Oh, well... :o

How is Ace Taxi? Can you please elaborate? Cheaper and bigger doesn't mean better....if they are better, can you please post their #?
I use Millenium often, I get the same car all the time, but the car smells of smoking. I wonder if they only have 1 car?

Ace Taxi is good. They are ontime ( I have used them only for airport trips though, and always scheduled a day in advance, but called up half an hour before the trip to confirm that they were sending out someone.
Their number is (201) 222-3334
Clean and reliable. Charge 20 for Newark airport, which is lower than others.. Infact, I had called them up after someone on this website itself had recommended them.

I have tried both Ace and Millenium.
for EWR Ace charges $22 and Millenium $25
Both have a network of drivers that are called when you schedule a pickup. I always schedule the day before I need service. Depending on which driver/car you experience may differ. Overall both are ok and reliable

You know, I used Ace Taxi last week based on the recommendation of this board. I must say, I was deeply, deeply disappointed. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that I happened to get the worst car in their fleet. The car was an old, dilapidated Lincoln. Duct tape held the door panel to the door. The A/C didn't work (I took it last week and it was one of those really hot, humid days...I was drenched in sweat by the time I got to the airport). Every time the driver accelerated the car seemed like it was going to die. The seats were torn. The car was filthy. Because I was already late, I had to take the car.
I'm going to stick to Millennium...I should have never strayed.
BTW, Ace charged me $27 to EWR. Millennium is only $25.

I think the service at ACE has gone downhill ..... I think i'll try millenium next time !
The driver was ridiculous .... he waited at the wrong building for my pick up (I asked to be picked up at 5.30am didnt get picked up until 6:20am - after numerous calls to the office) ..... he waited at a red light to turn right when there was no traffic (to busy making calls to the office) .... he missed the newark exit (then didnt know how to get to newark after taking the next exit) ..... he asked me how to get to newark after he assured me he knew how to get to the airport ...... The car itself was a peice of cr@p.
Now thats what I call stress before a long trip ! Just made it in time before getting kicked out at check in.
Never again will I use ACE

Budget Taxi is fine. We've used them for early monring departures out of EWR. The fare is a consistent $25 to the airport. I've also used EZ Car and Limousine at http://www.ezlimousine.com when traveling on company business. They have nice town cars but they can be more expensive.
Either way, you can call 24-48 hours in advance and they will get a car to you.

Agree with you. I used to like Ace, but the last time I used it, about 20 days ago. They were not as good, and the prices went up to 27 from 22. I will try Budget next
