Can you help me ?

Am looking at owning a car in Newport soon. But concerned, being a first time car owner in good ole Jersey city Newport.
Therefore any do's and donts abt the same would help.
Some topics I had in mind are highlighted below, your inputs would help:-

 Share any cautions on paid parking within the James Madison garage premise Vs. Parking on the road or any other location recommended
 Car thefts stories if Any
 suggested/recommended cars fit for the newport area
 Insurance companies recommended
 Is it safe to own a new car or a used car at Newport

Look fwd to sharing your experience

;)

1. If you can afford it and have a nice car, pony up the $$ for a monthly spot. At least you can sure you will ALWAYS get a spot and the likelihood of your car being stolen is very low. Parking on the street is really not worth it, unless you are strapped for cash or drive a jalopy.

2. PunjabiAssassin [a frequent poster to this forum, now gone underground] can re-tell his car theft story. He parked his car [Mitsu 3000 GT] in the Target lot overnight and lo and behold the next monring it was missing.

3. Your choice of car depends on what you intend to do with it. If you forsee running about around town, a mid-sized car will suit you well. But if you use it to commute to work and can afford a spot, any car/truck will do. I like the Mini a lot and can't wait for the new BMW 3 series to come out. If I had $$$ i would get the Audi S4.

4. Geico by far offers the best insurance rates. Some other comp. Liberty Mutual, First Trenton...

Am glad we have this BB, and very kicked abt the fact that I started this thread.I have gone thro the entire thread, however still have one query unanswered. I intend purchasing a new car, coz I have to drive to work everyday. Would it make a difference in safetly - when it comes to parking , if I have a used car Vs. new car- assuming the value of both cars are the same.Your advise would help. How is the New ACURA TSX Vs preowned TL
