I was reading this off my home page a few days ago and my heart went out to all of the victim's families. It's just so unfair and frighteningly random...

What provokes one to do such heinous acts against helpless & innocent people? I loath the fact that there are individuals out there that get recycled through our criminal justice system to come out and do more of the same. :(

It brings a whole new perspective when the news is focusing on knife and not gun crimes.

I'm no sociologist or psychologist, but I wonder if the desensitization of society (especially in the form of ultraviolent video games) isn't a contributing cause to the rising incidences of such indifferent acts of violence. I have a feeling that the answers are simple in nature. An escalation in the lack of courtesy, respect, consideration. Increasing loss of contact with nature. That kind of thing.

I know it must sound wacky on its face, but I don't think it's so farfetched a notion. Wish I were intelligent enough to explain why I think that's so. Ah, well. Let's hope for a more peaceful world. I take some comfort in knowing that the people who congregate here seem to be very good souls, indeed.
