If you want to see a good layout of monitors, check out Circuit City or Best Buy.
The both of them have a nice selection on display.

Circuit City (North Bergen)

Best Buy (Secaucus)

These are the closest locations that I know of.

I bought a Dell's 19 inch LCD monitor. Cheap and good enough. I use it daily and couldn't be more satisfied for dumping my CRT monitor. That thing used to give me headaches or make me feel dizzy. This monitor, never did that.
Don't go for advertisement crap like contrast ratios and all that. Dell has good monitors. I recently bought their most lowest end 17 inch LCD monitor. It is good enough too, although I would recomment buying a 19 inch. The resolution of LCD monitors is generally fixed, so don't make the mistake of buying an "ultra sharp" dell monitor with 17 inch area. IF you buy the ultra sharp line (which is high resolution), make sure you know what resolution it is and what the size is. I got my laptop, ultrasharp screen (1600 x 1200 resolution) on 15 inch! Yikes!
I recommend Dell. Cheap and good enough.

Agreed.

I even occasionally use mine for fps gaming, and it holds up well under 75fps refresh rates.
