There is a fine man wandering the streets of Newport. I was just wondering if he is searching for me. Seriously, the man with the teacup yorkie, you know who you are. Does that dog belong to your girlfriend?

I don't know about men with Yorkies... :p

A tiny dog, the size of a teacup. :)

Is it really that small? How small is it REALLY?

The dog is small enough to hold in one hand. Really an adorable dog with long silky hair.

I dog-sat a teacup Yorkie for a week. Boy, that hair tangles easily!

Why do you say that wishiwas -- about men with yorkies? I'm curious if we are on the same wave length. Don't you think that the dog may belong to his wife or girlfriend? Or maybe he is gay? Or mabye he is trying to pick up women with the cutie dog?

To demi: I don't know if dog size/sexuality are well correlated.

I wrote my comment above sarcastically, hence the use of :p

The sarcasm lies in the whole men with small dogs issue. But it is indeed possible that the dog is his (doesn't belong to a gf/wife) and that he is heterosexual and not even trying to pickup women. Maybe the guy genuinely loves the breed Yorkies.

Yorkies are a fabulous breed, I can't see how anyone wouldn't love them. :D

Teacups, however, don't live long, they're too fragile, weighing 4 lbs or less. Best to get a larger dog with a longer life span. We have two chihuahuas, they weigh around 8 lbs each. With lots of TLC, they can live to the age of 20. It's always heartbreaking when you lose a pet, so I think it's best to get one with a longer life span.

Thanks to the all-powerful google, here are some pictures of yorkies, in case anyone wants to see what they look like:

Some of my friends think pomeranians look cuter. I like both... :D

Tara,

I am very interested in getting a chihuahua. Can you tell me about yours? Do they mind being alone in the apt. for long hours at a time? How often do you walk them? Did you get them from a breeder? Have any pics to share?

Thanks!

I work midtown and the roads are closed between the PATH @ 33rd and my office.

I am dreading tomorrow and this entire week!!! I feel your pain. :(

I'm listening to the news, it sounds like their going nuts in Manhattan! Commute will be murder, you may be facing a stampede! I think I'll pass on the PATH, and take the Ferry downtown, followed by a subway uptown.

GOD BLESS AMERICA.

I just couldn't believe it. Today's commute was a breeze. I think half of Manhattan went on vacation. If it only could be like this forever.

Hi Wishiwas,

I have two adorable Chihuahuas. They are affectionate, loyal, and smart. Taco came from a breeder, and has a very calm temperment. We rescued Daisy from a shelter, and although she has calmed down considerably, she is very protective, particularly with my Mom. She is very attached to my mother, and will growl at anyone who comes near her. When we first got Daisy, she needed surgery. Apparently, someone had kicked her, loosening her intestine. She had her surgery, and is fine now, but appears to have psychological scars from the abuse. If you take good care of them, Chihuahuas can live up to twenty years.

You'll need to take time off when you first get a Chihuahua, until it gradually gets accustomed to staying alone in the house (about two weeks). Our dogs spend the day sleeping in the sunshine. We leave them plenty of water, kibbles (Hill's Science small bites), and piddle pads (doggy pampers) during the day. Our dogs are walked twice a day -- once in the morning and later, when we get home. You may want to walk a puppy three times.

I will try to upload a picture for you tomorrow.

wishiwas
August 31st, 2004, 12:47 PM
Thanks, Tara.

What exactly are piddle pads?

And can you recommend a breeder? I'm all about saving dogs from shelters, but I worry that since I am not home often I will not be able to give the extra-special attention an abused dog needs. How much are chihuahuas?

Are either of your chihuahuas short-haired and brown? Like Paris Hilton's dog?

This singles thread, entitled Hotties alert, seems to have become very dog focussed. I wonder if we all got it wrong, and what we need is not a virtual singles bar but a virtual lamp post?

I agree with Nic. My original intention was to motivate people to mention any people that caught their eye that day. So if you see someone on the PATH in Starbucks, or on the elevator who you think is HOT -- let us know.

i saw a really slim girl near Grove St station last night, tottering along on high heels with a skimpy dress that looked like it wouldn't stay on and REALLY bright red hair. She was hot!

I would personally refrain buying from a pet store.
Just do a search on google for "puppy Mills" and you will learn why!

tara,
I think you'll got one of your dogs from the Pet store in the mall. Did you forget? or maybe you also forgot the time you were swirling them in the air in the town square.
as for the guy with the yorkie...think i seen him around...white man, i think he has dark hair...was walking his dog today at around 12.00ish...

Downtown,

There is no need to chastise Tara for her well meaning response ... that's why your post was edited.

We purchased Taco from the Pet Company in the Mall, but they get their dogs from breeders. I don't believe any of their puppies come from a pet mill.

Have a nice day.

Wishiwas,

Piddle Pads are training pads that resemble Pampers, only they are flat. Good idea to train your dog to use in case of an emergency, such as for when you get home late.

Taco is almost eleven years old, and prices for Chihuahuas have probably increased substantially. I would guess today you would be paying $1,000 +. If you stop by the pet store in the mall they can give you a better idea. Their dogs are well bred, and come with all the papers.

Okay, we will move the doggy posts to a different thread.

Nic and I can't possibly be the only people to see hotties. Come now, don't be shy. They don't have to be superfine just enough to catch your eye. Recently, I have been in one of those peculiar moods that seems to influence my judgment. So for the time being almost everyone seems hot. Today on the elevator this one guy had no shoes on. Must have been doing his laundry. Usually this totally grosses me out but today I just thought it was HOT.

Haha! Seriously... how did we get from hottie to dog, to vibrator, and back to dog?

None of those seem to be directed related to each other. It's a little scary just thinking where this thread is heading to....

Perhaps vibrators and dogs substitute for hotties? Not together, obviously.

For me, I find a vigorous workout and a cold shower do the trick.

Stunted growth, organ troubles, genetic defects. Increased danger of accidentally sitting on one. Short answer: nope.

Never liked those toy dogs, creep me out. Plus I am sure I am going to trip over them and crack my head open.
I like mutts. I have had 4 dogs over the last 20 years, 2 collies & 2 mutts. I miss them :(

Ah, take it with a grain of salt. Teacups were made by repeatedly breeding abnormally small dogs with other abnomally small dogs to get even smaller dogs. If the breeder didn't have a large stock... that means inbreeding.

I guess if you finda breeder with a huge stock of small dogs from many different strains, you might be alright. There's just a lot of horror stories about teacups out there.

Does anyone else here not notice hotties?

I am being honest, I almost never notice a person based on their attractiveness. Sure, if someone is blocking the doors I have to exit from on the subway, I notice them and that they are in my way. But I hardly ever notice someone enough to notice whether or not they are (highly) attractive.

To be honest, I spend more time noticing women (and I am female) then men.

Is it possible to control how you notice people/things? If something catches your eye, you notice it, right? Then again, I maybe I am wrong. Here I go again, flip-flopping :)

Also, if you or anyone else wants a recommendation (re: vibrators), go with the Rabbit. It was even featured on Sex and the City!

Sounds like good planning to me.

Wishiwas, where did you get all this depth of knowledge on vibrators? Were you single and horny for a long period? Maybe loads of guys were giving you the glad eye and you didn't even notice, judging by your earlier comments!

I think men can't help be distracted by an attractive woman. It can be anything, the way their breasts look, an expression in their face, the way they dress, a fine ankle, a shapely forearm... it's so much worse in summer. And it doesn't matter if you're in a relationship or not. It's like something Pavlovian and it can make you miss your bus, or stand in a queue and buy something you don't even want. Now, Demiking, that's what I call stupid!

Anyway, back to the Hottie Alert......I saw a cute man with his dog. Not the teacup. Different man with different dog. Do you see the connection here? Hot men with cute dogs. I think we are onto something with this thread -- this hottie alert and cutie dogs. All you single men, run out and get yourself a dog.
