Does anybody ever spend time in any of the surrounding townships outside of Jersey City? For example... Bayonne, Union City, Weehawken, West New York, North Bergen, Guttenberg, Edgewater, Hoboken & Secaucus.

Are there any secret hot spots you want to share in any of these communities? Anything worth making a trip for? :)

We like the drive up by Edgewater, for shopping and dinner. The restaurants are pretty good -- We especially like the Crab House, and the views are spectacular.

If lightrail was a bit cheaper, I wouldn't mind taking trips to different places. But for now, I'll stick with NYC. :D

It's $1.50!?
For some reason I have the number $3.00 in my mind.
$1.50 isn't that bad at all!!!

I'm not sure where the Crab House is located but have you eaten at Fleming's Steakhouse @ City Place in Edgewater? They serve a mean slab of beef there, the service is professional, and the prices aren't too shabby.

We used to eat at Ruth's Chris @ Lincoln Harbor but the prices for the Porterhouse & the NY Strip have gotten so steep. I'm like everyone else, I want a deal. :D

I also enjoy taking a ride up to Fort Lee to spend a little time at Borders. It's quiet so I can take in a whole book uninterrupted in about five or six hours.

Mmmmm, Crab House. I think that is quite possibly my favorite place to eat in the area.

And if you buy 10 tickets at a time, you only pay $1.30 for each! ;)

Yeah, Edgewater got my vote too!

Hoboken has a bunch of great places, so many to name. When the wather permits, stroll up Washington Street from the PATH or light rail.

There is a new place right up River Road called Sabor. Has anyone eaten there yet. I hear the skirt steak is great!

You get some unexpectedly stunning views of Manhattan in Weehawken. I enjoy the cycle ride or drive along River Road too (if you cycle you can carry on over GW and down Manhattan). The Palisades State Park is worth a detour. If you want Oriental food there's a whole bunch of stores down near Edgewater.

Unsolicited Advice:

The Chart House & Spirito Grill both in Weehawken are managed by the same company. The both of them are really pricey with terrible service and terrible food. Don't even waste the effort experimenting if you haven't already. Mucho dinero for less than great experience.

Has anyone taken a stroll up & down Bergenline Avenue in Union City/West New York? It is like this 3 mile stretch of stores & eateries. You just wouldn't believe what you can find and for how inexpensive. Compared to what we are used to spending on things, this is a refreshing break on the wallet.

There are plenty of Cuban & Columbian eateries on Bergenline Avenue if you like that type of food, and the average price per meal is a whopping $8. Not too shabby, huh? It's an out of this world experience, really. It's also a nice way to work out your legs. :D

*The NJ Transit #86 takes you right up to Bergenline Ave. from Newport Centre & it also comes right back down to Newport Centre.

*The Vanessa Express (jitney bus) also runs this route to and from Newport Centre. ;)

I heard that Staten Island is building a NASCAR race track soon. Anybody know when? I can't wait! Staten Island is a hop, skip, & a jump away.
