View Full Version : Pet Problems

There are some problems/improvements I have for the pet system.
1. When pets are dead, they do not have a facial expression. It's just those red cross that shows up when the graphic is invalid.
2. It may be better if we can see how much cash we have when purchasing items in stores. I often lose track of the total cash I have, and had to frequent the bank page to check on my hodlings.
3. Is feeding pets food the only way to recover their HP? Or does it recover slowly over time?
4. When equiping "toys," does it have only one-time-effect on pet's status? Or does it increases overtime?
5. I don't seem to see any defense+ items in store... so how do we increase our defense powers?
That's about it for now. Oh, and the items are so damn expensive!!

Oh, and can we feed turtles kitty food? I want to make sure it works before I spend money on it.... I'm poor... :(
(there are awefully lot more dog/cat items than turtle/snail/spider items)
sanity
December 2nd, 2004, 11:15 PM
Toys are one time only. Once equipped, they add the stat. Once unequipped, the stat comes off...
Of course, as I just found out, if you *unequip* something at low health ... you DIE. =P
I'm figuring things out one thing at a time... THE HARD WAY.
sanity
December 2nd, 2004, 11:16 PM
food is animal specific.
Sonia said that toys were made non-animal specific.
zipbow
December 2nd, 2004, 11:20 PM
Thanks sanity.
How about health supplies? One of the vitamins said "kitty....." (something else i can't remember). Is that a cat-specific supply?
It might be better if it specifies the animal groups in the shops, just to prevent pet owners from buying the wrong products.
This pet thing IS fun!! I'm getting hooked.
sanity
December 2nd, 2004, 11:22 PM
I dunno =)
I'm finding things out one thing at a time.
Right now, all I know is that the vitamin shot doesn't work for snails and that the vitamin tabs do.
zipbow
December 2nd, 2004, 11:25 PM
Yikes! That's one tough snail to raise you have there.
I'm wondering if the admin group will post up a detailed (or a basic) walkthrough. Or is try-in-error part of the game?
Not sure if my virtual wallet can support my high-maintainance turtle though....

Ya, hes not happy with my trial and error method of pet raising.
zipbow
December 2nd, 2004, 11:38 PM
Your pet's pleasure level is really low!! But good thing it's strong now. I guess it's more important to have a strong pet over a happy pet in this dog-eat... wait... spider-eat-dog virtual world!! :)
sanity
December 2nd, 2004, 11:47 PM
I've actually no idea what the individual stats really do or mean.
Defense means you get hit less? Strength means you hit harder? Agility means how likely you are to hit/get hit?
Or does defense mean how likely you are to get hit?
Since I'm trying to figure out one thing at a time, I'm increasing strength first to test.
zipbow
December 2nd, 2004, 11:51 PM
I think how it works is your opponent's strenth - your defense = hit points you take.
That being said, when I was fighting that Incredible Spider, despite my high defense, I took 30-something damage per blow.... :(
So I'm not quite sure how defense really works. But agility affects the chance of you missing/dodging an attack.
How I wish they sell roller blades in the store. My turtle can really use a pair of it...
sanity
December 2nd, 2004, 11:53 PM
I don't think there is a set forumula. When my strength was 5, I did 83 damage to someone.
zipbow
December 2nd, 2004, 11:57 PM
I think those only happen on rare occasions (not sure what factor it's based on yet).
But when my defense was 80, and the Incredible Spider's strength was 83, apart from the two 30-something death-blows, his attack averaged at 3 hit points.
Perhaps agility has something to do with chances of death-blow? All I know is my agility was low, and I missed my attacks throughout the battle....
sanity
December 3rd, 2004, 12:02 AM
When the spider and I fought, my defense was higher, and yet I conistently got hit.
zipbow
December 3rd, 2004, 12:09 AM
When the spider and I fought, my defense was higher, and yet I conistently got hit.
Exactly!! When the fight began, I remember the spider's strength was below 80 (I remember it was around 43 or something), and that's when the two 30-something hit was dealt.
Somehow his strength boosted during the battle and became 83. Since then it was a consistant 3-hitpoint damage.
His spider had a high agility though. And I see your agility is quite high too. I'm assuming agility is somewhat like "luck," the higher it is, the more likely you'll get a boost in your strength during battles.

It sounds as if my little, cute spider is a incredibly strong deadly spider here.
Actually, both fights with a tuttle & snail were so tough that I though I lost the battle until the end. Besides, I had to heal my spider so much that I was broke for a while. :o
bonacera
December 3rd, 2004, 12:14 AM
Oh, I got leveled up during the battle and my hit got really powerful..
Before I got leveled up, a deadly snail constantly beat me and almost killed me....

Oh, I got leveled up during the battle and my hit got really powerful..
Before I got leveled up, a deadly snail constantly beat me and almost killed me....
So a snail delivered deadly hits, and a turtle fought defensely and kept missing??
Now what's wrong with that pciture!
And just wondering, does leveling up automatically heal your HP?
bonacera
December 3rd, 2004, 12:18 AM
It is not a technical pet problem.. Don't complain here.. ;)
Go to pez under general discussion. :D
sanity
December 3rd, 2004, 12:20 AM
No, the problem is an overgrown spider.
We're merely reviewing the post-game tape and strategizing.
bonacera
December 3rd, 2004, 12:20 AM
And just wondering, does leveling up automatically heal your HP?
No, it didn't. Just the hit got stronger.. :)
sanity
December 3rd, 2004, 12:22 AM
No, it didn't. Just the hit got stronger.. :)
Yeah, I was winning, and the spider kept missing, until the spider hit level 2.
Then, the spider hit me for 34 and 66.
bonacera
December 3rd, 2004, 12:25 AM
Yes, yes.. That's true except I hit 61 at the end, not 66.
And the snail almost killed me since I had only 23 life left before level-up..
zipbow
December 3rd, 2004, 12:29 AM
I just realized, there's a potential problem in the pet battle system.
Once a battle started, I do not see any way to end a battle unless you defeat/are defeated by your opponent, or if you surrender. What if two players enter the battle, and one of the pet NEVER makes a move? Are they in a dead lock? Or will the battle expire after a certain period of time?
bonacera
December 3rd, 2004, 12:32 AM
Good point.. :)
sanity
December 3rd, 2004, 12:33 AM
I think turns are timed... somewhere around a couple hours. If a player doesn't respond in time, the other player gets to move and attack.
zipbow
December 3rd, 2004, 12:37 AM
That makes more sense.
Did some testing. The system actually shows the current cash you have in the store interface. It's listed right below your current inventory.
Now another question I have is it doesn't look like you can play with your own pet. The play option only shows up when you're viewing other user's pets. Playing with pets actually increases their pleasure. In other words, you can help other users to increase their pet's pleasure level, but not your own. Is it meant to be that way?
bonacera
December 3rd, 2004, 12:42 AM
I think so. I think you can play or taunt with other people's pet 12 times within 24 hours, so we don't abuse them. I read it in the information section under Petz above.
sanity
December 3rd, 2004, 12:45 AM

December 3rd, 2004, 12:48 AM
I don't know. I've never taunted any pet before.. It will reduce their pleasure level, I think..
zipbow
December 3rd, 2004, 12:49 AM
How does one taunt? Please share.
You click on other pet's picture. At the bottom of their status panel, you can choose to play or taunt them.
Be nice and play with them, don't taunt them. They're precious little animals... :p
bonacera
December 3rd, 2004, 12:51 AM
Oh.. I misunderstood your question.
Click somebody's pet and at the left bottom, it shows 'play,' and at the right bottom, it shows, 'taunt.' You can click either of them..
sanity
December 3rd, 2004, 12:52 AM
I wonder who hes going to try it out on...
bonacera
December 3rd, 2004, 12:52 AM
One more thing to add.
When you play with a pet, it's owner will be notified.
I don't know about taunt, though. That's why you better not click 'taunt.'

Ok enough with testing with pets today. Got to catch some sleep or I'll die tomorrow (or today rather).
It's a neat system. Great job admins!! :)

I have revived Daisy, but it cost a fortune in virtual money. Apparently, there is strategy involved in succeeding at this game, and some of us are catching on faster than others. So, the caveat must be : Beware of how much you bet when you first start playing, you could lose your virtual shirt!

December 3rd, 2004, 10:45 AM
Yep. I'm still trying to figure out how to increase health... snail food is currently acting like a toy not food.

Since Daisy looks sad, I clicked "play" button of Daisy. but it says, "you are in a battle." I guess you can't even use "play" button during a battle.
I'll play with Daisy after the battle is over. :)

Another suggestion on pets system.
When player put their pet in the arena, will they be notified that some other pet is ch*****gin their pet?
I don't think anyone would wait at that screen for someone to ch*****ge them.. :p
bonacera
December 3rd, 2004, 10:36 PM
Yes, a person who made a ch*****ge will be notified via private message. I copied a private message below. Afterwards, you have to keep check back the arena whether it is your turn or not. Normally, people don't wait in the arena.. :)
Title : Ch*****ge Accepted

AUTO MESSAGE: PetzVB #

I'm wondering will your pet's appearance change as you level up, or after certain victories. Perhaps it will start to grow wings or something....

There is no changes so far. I don't know it might grow wings or something later on. :D Well, I'm only level 2 now. We'll see.
I'm worried that my spider might scare all other pets away in the board. :(

Yes.. doesn't it? I was actually laughing about how "happy pills" sound earlier, but didn't offend the Admins since they are doing such a good job.
By the way, I was actually hoping a happy pill will help to increase pets' happiness not pleasure.
It increase defense (+9), agility (+10), and pleasure (+9). As I mentioned before my pet usually have 100% pleasure, but is never that happy. Happiness is somewhat around 50%..
zipbow
December 4th, 2004, 12:54 AM
I'm telling you... this is the happy pill we are talking about! It raises his pleasure level yet happiness does not change. Defense rises because other senses are numbed; agility increase, well, because it's high.....per (yeah I know it should be hyper).
But hey! It's just a game. Why not? :D

We need +40ish Health item to repair pets after battle AND this item better be not so expensive and does NOT add any HP.
bonacera
December 4th, 2004, 09:51 PM
Thanks for adding an item called, "Special Strength Tonic."
(Health: +15, Max HP : +20, Strength : +2, Defense : +9, Agility: +15, Hunger : -5)
The thing is when a pet is defeated in a battle, he does not need any of the above, except Health. I think the item that gives +40 Health, without any stats, to a pet will benefit the defeated pet better. :)

Benson is not only cute but was pretty good in a battle as well.
His first blow was 61, and I remember my very first blow was '13' and lots of '3's later on -- before I became level 2 and got lots of food, pills and etc...

"Health restorer" really rocks!!!
It also makes a pet happy as a result of being healthy. I guess it makes sense that a healthy pet is happy. No more prior worries of pet owners that they don't seem to be able to make a pet happy. :)

I have a question about the battles in Petz?
Is it timed at all?
I'm worried that my pet will die from starvation since I cannot buy food for him while he is in a battle.. I have been waiting my opponent's move for 2.5 days now and if he does not move, I have to tell my pet to surrender and eat food... :(

Ummm... sorry to keep bugging you, but there's a new problem:
Pets put up temporarily in the adoption center aren't coming out when their temporary stay periods are up.
The countdown timer for the temporary stay doesnt seem to be counting down at all. I put my pet in for a 4 day period 3 days ago, and it still says my pet has 4 days left.

I can get the petz to a 0 days remaining status however I'm not guaranteeing if the petz will be able to be retrieved by their original owners.
I may be able to get them out of there all together but there is a high risk of the petz dying in the process.
What I am proposing is to try and get the temporary petz out of the adoption center and then change the code for it to only allow permanent adoptions and not an animal shelter too.
Of course as there are petz in there at the moment and I don't want to accidentally kill them without warning their owners I'm giving notice of my intentions to try this.
Naturally if you wish that I don't then speak up now.
I intend to get the petz out of the temporary center sometime between 1400 and 1800 GMT tomorrow (erm today, it's after mid-night already) which is the 18th December 2004.
