Who is up for some tennis this weekend? I am a pretty good player.
Played on school and varsity teams. Kinda slacked off since then....

I haven't played for a while either. Would like to play again. Where would you suggest? I grew up playing tennis in Arizona, so I'm used to finding a ton of courts without having to pay for them. It's hard for me to shell out $20 to play for an hour or even half an hour at some places that I heard of.

i tried playing @the newport courts a few times but found the wind to be more than distracting. i usually play on roosevelt island (we have quite a league there going on) -- the courts are great, and the full season price for non-residents of the island was something like $160 (no on court fees). there are also a bunch of nice courts around nyc or up in westchester or li, if you prefer a snobby atmosphere ;) enjoy!

Guys: Check this out...

Pretty cool. Right under our noses!! Jersey City always surprises me. I think I might check it out over the weekend.

TPN1997: Unfortunately all the courts around here require that you pay something to pay. I know of a few nice public courts in Riverside Park in Manhattan. The lincoln park courts sounds good, but am not sure how muc it costs. Will keep you posted.

Anita: Are the Roosevelt Island courts indoor or outdoor? And how long does it take to get to it? What kind of league is it? And how good are you?

Please do and give us a report on how easy it is to access and to join. Looks like there's a $25 annual membership fee. So very inexpensive compared to NY fees. I wonder if this place is easy to get to via public transportation. I don't have a car.

there are 2 types of courts on roosevelt island -- indoor (much more expensive, i think those are nearly exclusively for un staff) right off the tram, and outdoor -- the ones i was talking about, on the tip of the island. you can get there by car/bike, tram off of 59th st. or the F train, bound for queens. the league is pretty decent -- basically you can find at least 3-4 players at any level. the guy i usually play with is currently ranked #1. i used to play professional jrs till my shoulder decided to quit on me. since then, i've played some satellite doubles and coached a lot, but have been quite boring in the last 4-5 years.
