This was in todays Jersey Journal. Interesting enough, Guy Catrillo ran opposite Steve Fulop for the councilperson. seat in our ward, Ward E, last Spring. He pleaded guilty to corruption charges against him. He was sentenced to serve 18 months in jail. 18 months is considered a light sentence, apparently resulting from his willingness to plead guilty, and cooperation with the authorities:

JERSEY CITY -- A former candidate for Jersey City council who admitted taking bribes from an FBI informant was ordered today to serve 18 months in prison, marking the first sentencing in last year’s sweeping money-laundering and corruption sting.

Matt Rainey/The Star-LedgerGuy Catrillo, a planning aide exits U.S. Federal Court with his attorney Michael Koribanics in September 2009 after pleading guilty. Before being sentenced, Catrillo, a former member of Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy’s constituents services bureau, told Federal District Judge Jose L. Linares he was sorry for his crime.
“I apologize to you and everyone else I let down,” said Catrillo, a Republican.
I wonder why they are pointing out that Mr. Catrillo is a Republican? Does it really matter?
