I recommend anyone with children to go see the Christmas Spectacular this year. We take my daughter every year to see the Nutcracker but never made it to this one. It was much better than I anticipated, they added a nice nativity scene at the end that I thought was really appropriate. It was fun, go see it. ;)

The Christmas Spectacular is fascinating; I used to go when I was a kid. Another fabulous show (if they still have it), and my favorite, was The Christmas Carol, which was performed in Madison Square Garden. If you decide to go, make sure you get orchestra seats, the closer you sit upfront the better. Why? Because that's where it "snows" at the end of the show. It's a delightful, wonderful, experience for children at Christmas time.

Unless there's been a change, it was announced last year that it was the last time they are doing A Christmas Carol at MSG (though there is a movie of it coming up in a few days time with the lead actor from Frasier in the title role, and, horror of horrors, Jason Alexander as Jacob Marley, plus several other American actors). I'm a Yank, but I'm sorry, there should be a rule: no non-British actors in A Christmas Carol!
The most magical for me was seeing Patrick Stewart do his performance of A Chrsitmas Carol a few years ago on stage. He narrates and acts out the entire book, without a stick of furniture for a set and no costumes. He's amazing. You can get him reading it on CD too. Pure heaven.

I remember that! The people seated in the orchestra section were also given a red bag of goodies that I was jealous of. I did however receive some of the snow in my section because my family was seated directly behind orchestra. I remember the year that I went the gentleman that played Salieri ( the court composer) in the movie a Amadeus also played Scrooge. My family and I really enjoyed that movie so to see him there was extra special. At the end Scrooge ran out into the crowd so my daughter got to see him up close. It was really pleasant. :p

I have a really good tip for the tickets of Christmas Spectacular. Since we are not a tourist, we have a little bit more flexible schedule than the tourists have; so why don't we take advantage of it.
Go to the website of Christmas Spectacular. You can go there via either Madison Square garden or Radio City Music Hall. Sign up for the newsletter and they will send you lots of deals. They will send you presale stuff first. Don't buy them and wait. Eventually, they will send you a 'buy one get one free deal.' This deal is not available for the peak season, but the peak season is not pretty short and even during the peak season, the shows during the day is available for the deal. Also, sometimes they would send you a 'buy one get one free for the peak season' after a while if the tickets were not sold much; but you cannot guarantee it. After 911, it was like that even for the peak season, but I cannot speak for this year's peak season.
Have fun!! It is a fun show..
