I just installed a package to enable spell check when posting messages on our Bulletin Board - it just requires me to do a few additional steps, which require shell access. And so, I will have to do those from home in the evening, as I cant connect to external shells from work.

Great. Now, I'm trying out the spell check! It doesn't seem to work, and "Thesaurus" is spelled incorrectly. It looks like Prashant must go back to the drawing board. :)

That's because it is NOT working properly yet :( - some of the changes require "root" access, and I have submitted a ticket with the Company that hosts our web-site - let's see when they get around to making those changes!

In the meanwhile, I did install another SpellCheck script, but this one only appears when trying to start a new thread, not replying to an existing thread - feel free to give this one a try - even though there are a few bugs there too!

Hi Prashant,

Sorry to see we're having problems with Spell Check. I will email you our host's, Robby, phone number on Monday, as I left it in the office. With a phone call, he usually responds promptly. Weekends, however, are slower. We can also email their techs at support@netbasiks.com, but they don't work on weekends, and will take several days to respond. :)

Also, I'll be speaking with the Printer on Monday, and will need to email him the logo for the banner. Please update me on the design ASAP.

Thanks,

Sonia

Prashant,

You appear to have disappeared, presumably on vacation?

I spoke with Robby today. He told me all your requested changes were made. It looks like you've installed a spell check, although I'm not sure how it works. Question: Should the spell check be installed prior to the conversion?

Please get back to me when you return. We need to discuss finalizing the board.

Thanks,

Tara

Am I the only one having difficulty using the Spell Check? It doesn't seem to be working.

I don't think the spell check is working yet. Upon entering the spell check page there's still a long list of errors.

OKAY - it works now !!!

The one that I was trying to implement was having some issues with finding the standard English language dictionary which gets installed along with a utility called "aspell" on UNIX, and even after MANY tweakings, it failed to work properly.

The new SpellCheck works great, and has more features than the earlier script - it does however have one drawback - it doesn't recognize WYSIWYG formatting, and displays all the HTML tags which are internally used by the vBulletin software.

SO, what are you guys waiting for - let the Spell Checking begin !!!

As of the WYSIWYG formatting, I don't think that's an issue. After all it is a "spell-check" function. So long it's done checking it's accomplished the task! :)

One question though... with the "learn" feature, do users add a new vocab to the publicly shared dictionary? Or does each user have an individual dictionary?

Unfortunately, all the words added to the disctionary using the "learn" feature are added to the same "global" dictionary database - this feature can be disabled, but I decided to leave it on for now, and to see how it goes for a while.

Prashant,

Try correcting the word "disctionary" in your post.
