I joined some 70 to 80 people today at a champagne reception for Hillary Clinton, to give her a warm welcome to Newport. The guests formed a line to greet Hillary, and have their picture taken with her (she also signed a copy of her book, "It Takes a Village" for me).
Who was at the event? Governor Corzine, looking very well and healthy, Congressman Albio Sires, who I enjoyed chatting with in Spanish, three Jersey City council people, Mary Spinello, Mike Sottolano, and of course, Steven Fulop, who co-hosted the event with Jamie Lefrak (although Hillary did give credit for the effort to the Lefraks, especially Jamie). There were also many developers and real estate people, who gave me their business cards, and a few people who introduced themselves as friends or supporters of Steve.
Hillary went through several issues, but of most interest to me was her response to a question about doing business with China, and the need to have measures in place that will assure fairness for American business, and safeguard our intellectual property. She also discussed health care reform, and her past efforts, which she would seek to implement when she becomes President. It was evident that she is on top of all the important issues confronting our nation, and that as a nation, we will benefit economically under her leadership. Made me think of the time when our country enjoyed a surplus under another Clinton.
It seems Hillary likes our community, she commented on how lovely and modern it is. I shook hands with her for a second time as she was about to leave, and walk out the door to shake hands with all the well-wishers from Newport, who were there to wish her the best of luck.
Was it worth $1,000.00? Most definitely! I'd do it again.
