I downloaded the browser because I was having problems with my active x controls on Internet Explorer. It turns out Firefox is everything Explorer is and more. You can download patches to tailor your browser to your liking.

Get this, Firefox has a new feature called tabbed browsing that allows you to open a bunch of tabs in one window. You can email, surf the net, shop, and check your balances online all in one window. The Firefox icon looks really hot on my desktop too. I've done away with Explorer. What a troublesome browser.

I'm still learning how to use the browser. Does anyone else have any experience with Firefox.

Firefox is a nice browser. It's not done by Netscape, though.
IE is a great browser as well, whatever people say about it.

I don't know if it's done by Netscape but it's to my understanding that it is based on the Netscape platform. I'm enjoying it. It's got a fresh look and less complications. I used Explorer for years because that all there was to me.

I think because the vast majority uses Internet Explorer, the hackers who write viruses are more inclined to write viruses for IE than any of the smaller less popular browsers. That's my theory. I feel safer using Firefox.

I never knew if the difficulties I was having with IE were because I was infected or because the browser was faulty. I do know that I don't experience anything but the best browsing experience now.

The tabbed browsing feat. is nice. I no longer have to open new windows to launch new searches. All in one window now baby! Lovin' it.

I use both Firefox and IE... While I like Firefox, IE is still my default browser. While people claim that Firefox is safe, I don't buy that. However, most browser attacks are targeted against IE as it has the biggest market penetration (there is no such thing as 100% secure software).

I use IE as the default browser as most web sites (tool bars etc.) are optimized for use with IE...

Netscape is based on Mozilla, not other way around. Netscape 7.x is simply Mozilla 1.x with the Netscape branding.

Since I use a lot of websites that use Microsoft OS servers, I use Avant Browser.
It has all the features of FireFox and works like IE. I esp. like the tabbed browsing.
Try Avant Browser, it is an upgrade to Internet Explorer.
Avant Browser is a fast, stable, user-friendly, versatile multi-window browser
And its free, of course.

microsoft just got complacent and never improved on the features of explorer. i concur, firefox is much better - just getting the tabs make it worth it for me.

The extensions that you can download are right on man! I mean you can have almost anything you want or need on your browser window.

I just added a tool bar on my browser that allows me to control my media player right off my browser. That was brilliant! The ability to keep as many tabs open as you need in one window adds to the functionality & browsing comfort. You no longer have to stack windows on top of one another and decipher what's what in your task bar.

I'm browsing, paying bills, reading the Times, & searching for tracks in my media library all in one window. This is lazy, I mean, luxury browsing man. Firefox 1.0 is swwweeeeet! sammlung05

I loaded the Avant Browser as well just to check it out. It is similar to Firefox but I had to customize my tool bars. It comes with a lot of extra junk, what an overage of buttons. In any event, between these browsers alone Firefox & Avant Browser I believe we're all ready to dump Internet Explorer. In my eyes IE is a pre-historic browser man, really. With all these new features, options, & tighter security with Avant and Firefox I can't see ever missing IE.

Get one or get the other, by all means dump IE. ;)

I loaded updates for Firefox and when I closed out and then reloaded Firefox nothing worked. My home page did not load and none of the buttons up top were functioning. The browser went blank. Why did this happen?

Have you tried restarting your machine. Sometime firefox just won't close even you clicked the "X" button on the top right hand corner, it's gone but the task is still runing at the background, you'll see it if you bring up the task manager. And when that happened, all my shortcuts on the bar are gone. You have to either kill the task manually or restart.

Well to be honest, I lost my patience and uninstalled it temporarily. I miss Firefox a lot but it gives me a chance to become better acquainted with Avant Browser. I will reload Firefox again soon. I can't seem to get used to Avant, it's too busy with buttons.

I just discovered the keyword feature/setting in my bookmarks. Once I set up each book marked site then I can type in the key word only in the address bar to pull up the sites that I frequent in an instant. Man, this is great!

Is this new to Firefox or does IE have this as well? I never noticed. It takes me a while to learn how to fully benefit from the features that come standard with products these days. I bet that I miss out on lots of great features that I pay for with products also because of my ineptness. Shucks! sammlung09

I use opera. Couldnt be more happier with a browser. Here are the features that are absolutely fantastic:
-Good control on pop-ups (none, only the ones you want, all but in background, all)
-all windows open in the same window as tabs
-User Mode/Author Mode. You can choose to view webpage in user mode. This mode toggles fonts etc. etc. There are prebuild formats, you can select any as your user mode. Shortcut key toggles between user mode and author mode. I hate looking at huge fonts at work. My user mode makes pages "sober".
The feature that I like most. And the reason I always use opera:
Mouse gestures. It has many inbuilt mouse gestures and really pressing a button for going back ****s. I just move my mouse backwords and it goes back.
There is another feature in opera that is great: fast forward. Even if you don't have any page in forward history, opera can anticipate what the next page will be, and using a simple mouse gesture I can go forward. Works great on many sites, specially when you are viewing images or reading threads.
Its also a very light browser. I have been using it for 2 years and never had any security issue with it.

I just started using FireFox and so far have been pretty happy with it.
The icon looks cool, too.
The only drawback I found so far is when I want to download a file from my Yahoo! email, it' won't let me choose a folder where I want to save the file in. Anybody knows how to deal with that? Thanks.

I tried Firefox and liked it, the trouble is I'm complacent with technology. If something works for me, even if it is overtaken by other technologies, it's a while before I concede that it is worth climbing the learning curve of a new application. I guess it's that sort of compacency that allows a lot of companies to treat existing customers with disdain. Anyway, I still use Internet Explorer and it still does 90% of what I would want from a browser.

I've really adapted to the tabbed browsing & the key word features. I couldn't even look at IE anymore. Firefox is easy to use and high functional w/o the annoying ads and extra toolbars or panels.

Opera is also a nice browser but very junky. Lots of extras that really make it difficult to "climb the learning curve". :D

I predict Internet Explorer will become a pre-historic browser in the near future. IE is a boring browser w/ more security issues than anyone needs to deal with.

Firefox & Opera browsers have stepped up fairly quickly and will be clenching all the market penetration stats within the next few years.

Another factor for me is using the same technologies at home and at work. We're using IE, Office XP, Windows Media Player etc at work, and the environemnt is really locked down quite tightly, and I only really want to learn one platform. I keep promising myself I'll play around with Linux and other stuff at home, but there just seem to better ways to pass the time and it seems to be building un-necessary redundancy into my technology skills.

Don't you think that conservatism in the IT environment at work will act as a slough on the adoption of different platforms, or do you think people will be happy to use different technologies at home from the office?

There is no harm in using multiple browsers, based on what you are doing. If you are looking at a site that heavily uses activex and windows media player and what not, I use IE.

But I would never use IE for my general browser. Its like saying, "hey guys look I am all open to any thing you want to install. Spyware, ads, trojans sure. Please feel free". I use IE only for very few websites.

It totally makes sense to use different browser at work than at home. That is because the needs are different. A bad pop-up at work can be lot of trouble. Same pop up at home can be just a minor annoyance.

Many people never make the switch because they are too "comfortable" using what they have been using. But in reality such a switch is very very useful. Its not that hard either. You don't need to learn all the new features right away. I stuck to IE for such a long time because I never liked netscape and mozilla back then. Then I used Opera one day and boy was it sweet! It sure takes effort and that uncomfortable feeling at first, but it was well worth it. Opera is junky, thats true. Doesnt look that good. But it just looks that way. I find it very mature and has very important features. I haven't used firefox, maybe I should give it a try.

Speaking about using the same tech. at home and at work. I have Firefox installed on both places, and also installed an extension for synchronizing the bookmarks between them. Man, it's so cold! Now I have the same bookmarks at work and at home.

I am noticing that when I install or uninstall extensions on Firefox 1.0 it debilitates my browser. I get a blank page upon opening the browser and none of the buttons work. What's happening? This only began when I loaded version 1.0. How do I troubleshoot this?

I use Firefox for about 99% of the time. The only time I don't use it is if I am dealing with code directly in administrative sections of my websites as the search function does not like iframes in Firefox but works a treat in IE. It's a pain in the neck though as I forget and then it's not till I start doing stuff that I realise I am in the wrong browser. Also worldwinner.com won't let you play the games in Firefox.

I'm still using Outlook for my mail though. With over 20,000 emails in my various mailboxes in it I'm a bit reluctant to change. If I was a low volume email user then I'd change at the drop of a hat.
