There seems to be some construction work going on right on the corner of 18th Street and Marin Boulevard, in front of the A&P. Does anyone know what is happening there? A fast food place? Another bank?

Perhaps the link posted under the thread 'Future Newport development beyond Shore Club' helps ?

Itsted: No idea but I think it's a shame they knocked down the old water tank and washing shed. It reminded me that this was an industrial area, a history we've almost obliterated now.
Renuke: It's a nice map but it doesn't give a clue as to what's going to replace the water tank on the S E corder of Marin and 18th.

Could it be the 700 Grove Street apartment complex?

PTMG: No, that's a different lot. The one I'm thinking of is within the block containing A+P's car park. It's right on the south-east corner of 18th and Marin.

stinky,
I'll take a look when I walk to the A&P. But rest assured, nothing of beauty was removed...that was a FUEL tank, to fuel trucks. Perhaps nothing is going in there and they removed the fuel tank as a precaution against leakage, explosions, etc.
There was nothing attractive at all about it.
We'd know if they were building soomething because that is a Lefrak lot!
If you feel the urge to get a feeling of Jersey City's industrial past, take a drive (or bike-ride) down Pacific Avenue.

Stinky,
I walked by and asked the workers what was going in and they said they are just extending the A&P parking lot. I know, why bother, but those fuel taknks are looked upon as a huge possible liability.
