I am looking to buy some living room furniture (sofas, chairs) and wanted to know what furniture stores people would recommend. I have been to IKEA but I find it takes too much time. Any other stores which are not too expensive (I do not consider IKEA expensive) but have good quality.
Thanks,
Puneet

Well, I can't say these fit into your category of not-too-expensive, but I love these stores and we have pieces from them:
Bo Concept: http://www.boconcept.us/
West Elm: http://www.westelm.com
Both are stores in NYC. Naturally, they deliver to Newport.

Both stores listed above are great stores and we too have a few pieces from Westelm. If you are looking for something cheaper than the NY stores , there is Jennifer convertibles which has some good sales on right now. The closest one I know is in the Hudson Mall at 440.

I also found some great pieces at the furniture stores in Jersey City at the Grove PATH stop on that main street right there. Sleep Cheap I think (has other furniture) and Milano furniture.

Donno if this classifies as cheap but there are great pieces I've picked up at Crate and Barrel and the Door Store (both in the city). I've only ever got stuff in the sales though and the quality is great not to mention very modern lines / styles. They deliver to Newport too. Maybe even try Pier One Imports and Pottery Barn ... good places to pick up stuff and mix-n-match 'em up.

For nice furniture in a price range extending from low-moderate to exceedingly expensive, give a walk through Macy's Herald Square store's Ninth Floor. They have an absolutely huge selection.
With a car, try Levitz up on Route 17 a bit North of Route 4. Good looking cheaper furniture...but nicer than IKEA or CRATE AND BARREL.
Too bad the only thing we can buy in our THIRD WORLD MALL are a couple recliners and some mattresses! Great if you are setting up a flophouse with 20 people in a room. (Somebody actually tried that in the James Monroe:Tara.badi )

Thanks for the info everyone.
I didn't hear good things about BoConcepts from various online reviewers. However I will check out the stores near Grove St and the Macys.
