I'm getting a ride to Wayne very early tomorrow to stand in line to take the test to get my US Drivers License. But I have to get back from Wayne to Newport. Has anyone else done this journey and can recommend some rail or bus routes?

Thanks!

I was under the impression that one can do thin in JSQ office (1-2 years, if one is not a US citizen, one needed to go to Wayne). Please don't take my word for it; perhaps you still have time to call the JSQ office this evening to confirm.

Sorry, I was not clear in the earlier message... Even if one is NOT a US citizen, one can get the driver's licence in JSQ office (2 years ago, this was not true; one had to go to Wayne to get the licence; now, it appears that one can do this at JSQ even if you are not a US citizen)

I believe you need to have a Green Card though - I understand if you're here on an H1-B you can't get it at JSQ ... but not sure. A quick phonecall to the DMV in JSQ will help.

I was told today by another British guy that I met that you can do it in JSQ as of about 8 months ago, so I cancelled my ride to Wayne and am going to go there. I'm on an H1-B so we'll see. Fingers crossed!

For the last year or so, people with visa status/non-citizens do not really have to goto a regional DMV center for your license. You can go to your local DMV office for example in Jersey City

You can get most things related to vehicles and drivers licenses done at the JSQ DMV. The only reason you may have to go to Wayne or anywhere else is if you are expected to take the driving test.

Hope this helps.

We have our driver licenses 3 weeks ago at JSQ DMV. I have a H4 visa and my husband a H1B. It was very fast, and if you have your original driver license with an official translation, you don't need to take the road test. Just the eyes and knowledge tests.
