I have a pair of pants that need to be hemmed. Any recommendations for places that don't cost too much? I have a feeling that the dry cleaners at Newport will be too expensive...

jon's cleaners in the mall charged me $5-6. Something around there. I go there b/c it's just convenient... although i DO have to PAY for parking! how crazy is that? Anyway, Jon's is not that good. i've seen better hem jobs.

If you live in Newport why would you take your car? My sister goes to some drycleaner on Grand Street in the mini-mall where the Pathmark is. I know it is cheap and he does a good job but if you don't have a car it will be inconvenient. I may go to Jon's myself because $6 is cheaper than what I have paid in New York.

I'd give Jon's a call first and check on the prices.... I've actually bought a sewing machine and learned to sew over the summer so I won't have to keep having things hemmed, but earlier in the year I could've sworn I was paying closer to $10 a pair of trousers.

I was dropping off some dry cleaning on the way to the PATH and asked at Jon's, and they confirmed: $10 to get a pair of pants hemmed.
You may want to try the dry cleaners on Erie Street, between 8th and 9th Streets, at the back of the hospital. I think the cleaner is called National, and they're a short walk from the Lincoln (not even 5 minutes), on our side of the mall.
I had pants hemmed there once and I don't think they were as expensive as Jon's.

I tried jon's cleaners today. They charge 10 bucks for hemming. I paid about 7-8 at the "Cleaners" next the Nails shop about 3 years ago. But I don't quite like them anymore. Guess I will try the National Cleaners someone was mentioning.

If you dry clean your clothing regularly at the Shipyard Cleaners in Hoboken, they generally don't charge for alterations. Shipyard Cleaners is up the block from the Hollywood movie rental place and Kings Fresh Ideas. I want to say 12th st. by where you catch the Ferry to NY.
