I just got in an elevator, and there was a strong smell of burning. Really strong. We went up a few floors, then the red light and the buzzing started, and we changed direction and zipped down the the 2nd floor, where we were told to exit the elevator as they were needed for an emergency. All 3 elevators had stopped on the 2nd. I could still smell the burning.

So about 2 minutes later, an announcement came across - "Can I have your attention please, there is NO emergency, I repeat, there is NO emergency".

So what the hell was the burning smell? And why did the alarms go off and the elevators go into emergency mode? Does anyone trust the incompetant way these buildings are managed? Does anyone trust them to handle a genuine emergency? Or would confusion, incompetance and danger prevail? Are we indeed safe living here? I've never lived anywhere like this, where things are so badly run. Where things go wrong so often. Does anyone really believe the Newport management capable of using our (inflated) rents in order to provide an acceptable living environment? My God, sometimes it seems like this whole complex is sick to the core!
