it's seems a bit chilly outside, so naturally skiing is on my mind although i seriously hope that we're still a few months away from snow in the city. what's a good place to go skiing? i've been to colorado, prefer to do my skiing in europe, but seems that this year i won't have time to jet around so something near would be nice. any suggestions, favorite spots? :)

The few times [really just twice] I have skied, I went upto Vermont.
I loved it, in fact loved it so much that I have a VT decal on my car.
Its a great place to go for the weekend, its only a 7 hours away.

I went to Sugarbush and Smuggler's Notch.

Skiiing is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Can't wait for the skiing season! There are a few places within a few hours drive round here that sound good for a day off work (to avoid weekend crowds), but what about weekends/long weekends. Any recs?

you ski with your clothes on? ;)

i think a long weekend is definitely worth a trip to switzerland :) i've heard a lot about vermont so i'm curious to go this year (friends of mine usually rent a house somewhere up there for a couple of months so weekend runs are a definite possibility).

can anyone think of a nice slope that's closer than vermont? the idea is to fit in a few hours of skiing preceeded by brunch in manhattan and followed by a drive back that still lets you hang on to some energy.... :)

I went last year to Mountain Creek during the weekend and it was just terrible. It is just so overcrowded. This year I am going to try to organize a ski trip for the Cornerstone School and I am going to look into Hidden Valley. http://www.hiddenvalleynj.com/

I will also look into Hunter but it is quite popular. I would like to avoid the crowds. Maybe a private bus trip can be organized for the Newport residents utilzing a bus for transportation.

Anita,

How near? We go up to Canada, Mt. St. Anne (near Quebec), it's quite beautiful there, and not to far by plane.
